Downloading
Digital Kits - How to Snag Freebies
Digital
kits include digital paper and embellishments that are similar to paper kits
and are available as a download on a large number of websites either for free
or to purchase. A complete list of resources may be found at the end of this
booklet and there seem to be new sites being added everyday!!
To download
a digital kit, you may need to register on a particular website. Free kits can
be found under freebies or may be listed in the store. Once you find and click
on the link, you will see the box below:
(this download
is from the Scrap Outside the Box website)
Now click
on Save because you want to save them in your computer rather than just open
them. A new dialog box will open that will help you decide where you want to
save the kit. It will look like this:

Where
should you put your digital kits?
Where ever
you would like! The most popular places are in My Documents and in My
Pictures. Saving your kits in My Pictures is handy since your photos are there
too, so that is what many people do.
Let's say
you want to store them in My Pictures. First, click on My Pictures. Then you
want you can create a new folder by clicking on the folder icon with the red
star and then typing in the name of the folder. Some digital scrapers prefer
to use one big folder for kits and then create smaller folders within that one
- say a big folder for Scrapbook Kits and then one folder for each kit. Some
like to name the kits using the designer's name while others prefer using just
kit names or the website where you downloaded the kit. It is really up to you!
In this
page note the folder FxFoto Clips- this folder contains the digital kits that
come with FxFoto Creative.

Once you
name the folder and press Save, the download will start. Depending on whether
you use cable, dial up or DSL, this may take some time! With dialup this can
be particularly long and many sites offer CD burning service where they will
burn a CD for you.
Once the
download is complete, a box will pop up that looks like this:

Click on
Open and you will see the box below which has your file in a zipped format.

The file
has been compressed or zipped to make it smaller for downloading. In order to
use the file, you will have to extract the files (better known as unzipping
it). Click on Extract all files and follow the directions in the wizard boxes
to unzip your file. Now it is ready to use!
